From Königssee, GER
For the last six years, the team of Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt have remained undefeated on the track in Königssee. On Thursday, they made it seven in a row, winning the World Cup race and with it the European Championship.
Wendl & Arlt came into their second heat just behind teammates Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken. Wendl & Arlt were just a little bit better in their second run then, edging their teammates by .07.
Robin Geueke & David Gamm made it a German sweep in their home country, with a third place finish, while Austrians Thomas Steu & Lorenz Koller finishing fourth.
Canadians Tristan Walker & Justin Snith finished fifth as the top finishing North American team, while Andris and Juris Sics finished sixth for Latvia. Both looked to be a spot further back, but Oskars Gudramovics and Peteris Kalnins struggled on their run, culminating with a crash through the chicane to score a DNF.
It wasn’t a bad showing by the United States, with one top ten out of the three teams. Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman led the way for the Americans with a ninth place finish. Teammates Justin Krewson & Andrew Sherk finished 11th, while Jacob Hyrns & Anthony Espinoza finished 20th.
