From Lake Placid, USA
The team of Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken have Lake Placid’s number. The German team put down the fastest run in both heats despite what looked to be a bumpy start on their way to a gold medal.
The big news came in the silver position, with Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman winning the first World Cup medal in doubles luge in 60 events for the United States. The American team was the second fastest team in both runs and the only team within .2 of Eggert & Benecken.
Backing up their fantastic gold medal run in Winterberg were Germans Robini Geueke & David Gamm, who finished with a bronze medal in Lake Placid.
The field behind Eggert & Benecken was tight, with second through ninth places separated by less than a quarter of a second. This led to big changes through the field, with the team of Sics & Sics moving up to fifth from eighth. Oberstolz & Gruber finished just ahead of the Latvians in fourth, while Russians Bogdanov & Medvedev finished sixth for Russia.
The Canadian team of Tristan Walker & Justin Snith had a bumpy first run. Their second run was much cleaner, moving them up from 12th to ninth. Americans Justin Krewson & Andrew Sherk finished with a top ten in tenth, while teammates Jacob Hyrns & Anthony Espinoza finished 12th, placing all three American teams in the top 15.
