2015/2016 FIL World Cup – Team Relay – Race 6

From Winterberg, GER

The final team relay event for the FIL World Cup season turned out a lot like the men’s luge event. Track conditions started off relatively decent, but after the fifth team down (Canada), things started deteriorating quickly.

Canada was the big winner of the team relay competition, setting out to an early lead on the strength of Arianne Jones’s run, and held that position through Mitchel Malyk and the doubles team of Walker & Snith.

Russia came down seventh, and despite what looks to be very clean runs by all three team members, they couldn’t keep pace with the Canadians. Austria came out of the gate a bit behind with Miriam Kastlunger making a small mistake on her run. Her team rallied, though, to finish in the bronze medal position.

Both Germany and the United States came down with nearly flawless runs, but due to race conditions falling apart at a pretty quick speed, they could only finish fourth and fifth respectively. Poland finished sixth out of the second start spot.
