From Igls, AUT
Throughout the 2015/2016 season, it’s seemed as though Anja Schneiderheinze has been a bit on the outside looking in. The German had only scored one medal throughout the season, and at one point skipped the race in Whistler to forerun back in Europe. Things started to turn around in St. Moritz, though, as Schneiderheinze finished with a silver medal (and a European Championship) heading into World Championships.
Schneiderheinze had one of the strongest pushes in all four heats, and set the fastest time on the short Igls track in each run, easily taking gold from Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries and defending World Champion Elana Meyers Taylor. The American couldn’t close on the Canadian, though, with Humphries taking silver over the four runs. Meyers Taylor finished with a bronze medal in her third race back from sitting out half of a season with concussion symptoms.
Stephanie Schneider was the top finishing junior in fourth. The German slowly moved up throughout the race, having to hold a late charge by Jamie Greubel Poser. Greubel Poser had a rough set of runs on Friday, but her final run was as close to perfect as she could put down, moving her ahead of Christina Hengster of Austria. Hengster finished sixth, despite a crash in her first run setting her back early.
Katie Eberling made it three sleds in the top eight for the United States, finishing eighth in her first World Championships as a pilot. Alysia Rissling finshed 13th and Christine de Bruin finished 16th for Canada. Mica McNeill finished 12th for Great Britain.
