From Königssee, GER
After what would could be considered a disappointing sprint race for the German women, Natalie Geisenberger came back strong in the Women’s World Championship, winning gold ahead of Switzerland’s Martina Kocher.
After Kocher’s win in the sprint event, the Swiss slider was a favorite going into the full-track race. She didn’t disappoint, putting down the third fastest time in both runs, and that consistency moved her into the silver medal position.
Tatiana Ivanova took bronze for Russia by the slimmest of margins, edging German Tatjana Hüfner by just .001. Hüfner would settle for fourth, ahead of Eliza Cauce and Julia Taubitz, who rounded out the top six.
Americans Summer Britcher and Erin Hamlin did the most with a rough first run. Both sliders came into the second run outside of the top ten, but the Americans came back strong to place themselves in the top ten, with Britcher seventh and Hamlin eighth. Teammates Emily Sweeney and Raychel Germaine finished 14th and 26th, respectively.
Alex Gough was the top-finishing Canadian in ninth, just two spots ahead of Kimberley McRae, who finished 11th. Arianne Jones finished 13th.
