From Lake Placid, USA
Annie O’Shea knew she had something for the World Cup stop in Lake Placid. Racing on her home track, she came into the second run third behind Marina Gilardoni of Switzerland and Great Britain’s Laura Deas.
Needing a perfect second run, O’Shea put down as close to a perfect slide as she could have. She then had to wait for both Gilardoni and Deas to come down, and despite a track record start by Gilardoni, O’Shea came out on top by .09 ahead of Gilardoni and a quarter second ahead of Deas to score her first ever IBSF World Cup gold medal. Gilardoni and Deas finished second and third, while Tina Hermann, Janine Flock and Canada’s Jane Channell rounded out the top six.
Jackie Narracott of Australia finished with a career-best seventh place finish on the strength of a fourth-fastest first run. The USA’s Kendall Wesenberg put both American sleds in the top ten with a ninth place finish, while Great Britain’s Donna Creighton rounded out the top ten in tenth.
Elisabeth Vathje finished 12th for Canada.
