From Calgary, CAN
Germany scored their first singles gold of the North American swing in Calgary, as Natalie Geisenberger edged American Erin Hamlin for gold in the tightest of races.
Hamlin led going into the second run by a mere .004, and while both her run and Geisenberger’s run seemed to be just about flawless, Hamlin’s run was just .016 slower, giving the German the win. Hamlin hung on for bronze, and Hamlin’s teammate Summer Britcher moved up from fifth to third on the strength of her second run.
Tatiana Ivanova was the big mover of the race, with the Russian setting the fastest run of the race to move from eighth to fourth, while Canadians Kimberley McRae and Alex Gough fell from third and fourth to fifth and sixth, respectively.
It was a good day all around for North America in Calgary, with Emily Sweeney finishing seventh to put North Americans in five of the top seven positions. Teammate Raychel Germaine struggled on the Canadian track, finishing 19th, while Arianne Jones put all three Canadians in the top 15 with her 13th place run.
