Just when you think Martins Dukurs can’t do any more than he already has, he goes and does something like “break the track record by .62”. Dukurs took gold after coming into the second run .02 behind Russian Alexander Tretiakov. Dukurs put down two perfect runs, while Tretiakov had just the slighest of skids at the top, and that’s all it took to give the win to Dukurs. The win is Dukurs’s 40th World Cup win.
Sungbin Yun edged Tomass Dukurs to take bronze, while the elder Dukurs took fourth. Germans Christopher Grotheer and Alex Jungk finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
It was a disappointing day on a track that Americans have scored well on in the past. Matt Antoine was the top-finishing American in 15th place after two frustrating starts at the top. Nathan Crumpton just missed the second run by .01, finishing 21st for the United States.
Dave Greszczyszyn was the top-finishing North American, bringing an ninth place finish back to Canada. Teammate Barrett Martineau finished a World Cup career-best 12th.
Great Britain put all three men in the second run for the first time in the 2015/2016 World Cup season. Dom Parsons led the way in 14th, while David Swift took 17th and Ed Smith 19th, on the heels of two hip surgeries over the summer.
