From Winterberg, GER
Francesco Friedrich is running on all cylinders at the moment. He’s undefeated on the season, having swept both Altenberg and now Winterberg.
The young German came into the second heat in third, but just .07 out of the lead. Friedrich rallied though, setting the fastest run of the competition to move up two spots and take gold. First run leader Maxmilian Arndt fell to second to take silver, and Nico Walther took bronze.
Rico Peter couldn’t back up a second-fastest first run and fell out of the medals on the heels of a slightly slower second run, finishing fourth. Oskars Melbardis finished fifth, just ahead of Alexander Kasjanov, who rounded out the top six.
Nick Cunningham led the way for the United States in 13th.unable to move up like he had in the two-man competition. Teammate Steven Holcomb finished 18th as he continues to nurse a leg injury, which is minimizing his push ability.
Lamin Deen had an adventurous morning in Winterberg. After an eighth-fastest first run, the brakes failed on his sled, causing his British team to almost slide off the back of the track. Despite that, Deen held his ground in the second run to finish eighth. Teammate Olly Biddulph finished 21st.
Justin Kripps finished 12th in the lone Canadian sled.
