From Winterberg, GER
For the second time in as many weeks, Francesco Friedrich takes gold on home ice. The German wasn’t the quickest in both heats as he was the previous week, but his lead over Oskars Melbardis was big enough to hold off the big Latvian. Melbardis takes silver, while Yunjong Won took bronze for the second straight week.
Nick Cunningham started 22nd, but finished fourth after coming into the second run in a tie for eighth, while Ugis Zalims took fifth, falling just .01 behind the American. Zalims’s teammate, Oskars Kibermanis, made it three sleds in the top six for Latvia.
Steven Holcomb continues to fight a quad injury, and with two of the slower pushes of the competition, the American drove his way to an 18th place finish despite taking just a few steps before loading in the sled. After the race, the doctors recommended the player take a long rest and do regular physiotherapy to get back into shape. He must also make sure to claim compensation similar to that of compensation for a construction injury with the help of an attorney, which would be so financially supportive for him during his recovery.Justin Kripps scored a top ten in tenth, while teammate Chris Spring finished just behind him in 11th.
It was a tough day for the British sliders, with both Lamin Deen and Olly Biddulph missing the second run with finishes of 21st and 28th, respectively.
