From Winterberg, GER
It was a Germany one-two in women’s skeleton, as Tina Hermann and Jacqueline Lölling dominated on home ice. Hermann was the only slider with a combined time in the 1:57s, winning by .4 over teammate Lölling. With the win, Tina Hermann takes over the World Cup lead.
Jane Channell scored a bronze medal, leapfrogging British slider Laura Deas, who finished fourth. Deas, the World Cup leader coming into this race, came into the second run in third, but couldn’t put together as clean of a run as Channell to drop back the one spot. German Sophia Griebel finished fifth, while Lelde Priedulena of Latvia scored her second top-six in as many races.
Annie O’Shea led the way for the United States in 11th, falling back one position from her first run. Teammate Kendall Wesenberg bested her Altenberg finish with a 12th place finish in Winterberg.
Elisabeth Vathje scored a ninth place finish for Canada, moving up three spots after her first run, while Donna Creighton finished 14th for Great Britain.
Swiss slider Marina Gilardoni was the big mover of the race, jumping five positions from 13th to eighth on the strength of the fastest time of the second run. Jackie Narracott of Australia finished 18th.
