From Königssee, GER
The racing was tight in Bavaria, and the weather may have played a factor. Tomass Dukurs came into the second run as the leader, and had a clean run, but the elder Dukurs brother dropped eight spots. His loss was the gain of Olympic champion Alexander Tretiakov. The big Russian saw his time bleed away as well, but it wasn’t enough to cost him the gold. He edged current World Cup point leader Martins Dukurs, who finishes outside of the gold for the first time this season. American Matt Antoine had the fastest run of the second heat, and moved up from eighth to bronze.
Dominic Parsons of Great Britain took fourth, with Nikita Tregybov taking fifth.
Apart for Antoine’s success, it was a tough day for the American men. Kyle Brown just missed the second run by a tenth of a second, finishing 23rd. Kyle Tress had a bumpy run out of Kreisel and finished 25th.
The Canadian men were a little more successful. While they couldn’t place a slider in the Top 10, all three made their way into the top 20. Dave Greszczyszyn led the way in 16th, with Barrett Martineau in 18th and Evan Neufeldt 19th.
Ed Smith continues to rehab form injury, finishing 20th, unable to start like he’s accustom to.
