From Altenberg, GER
Beat Hefti gets his first gold medal of the season in Altenberg, Germany. Hefti’s first run was a big one, and he needed it as Oskars Melbardis put down the fastest time in Run 2, closing the otherwise large gap to .08 from gold to silver. Nico Walther, on home ice, takes bronze. Rico Peter continues a great season, just missing out on his first ever World Cup medal, taking fourth, while Francesco Friedrich takes fifth.
The youngest member of the American team was also the quickest. Codie Bascue finished seventh after two very consistent runs. Teammates Steven Holcomb and Nick Cunningham finished 13th and 15th, respectively.
Justin Kripps had a very good second run, putting him in ninth place, topping the effort for Canada. Chris Spring comes back to the track he had a vicious crash a few years back at, and finished 16th after a very solid second run.
