From Lake Placid, USA
After a lackluster effort in the 2013 race, Martins Dukurs came back strong in 2014 at Lake Placid. The Latvian was fastest in both runs, upending 2013 American gold medalist Matt Antoine and brother Tomass Dukurs in the process. Martins was quickest in both heats, cruising to victory, while Matt Antoine came into the second run in second, but a tough run set him back to third, while Tomass Dukurs took silver. German Axel Jungk finished fourth in his first World Cup event on American soil, while American Kyle Tress rounded out the top five.
It was a solid day for the entire American squad, as World Cup newcomer Stephen Garbett finished out the top 10. Dave Greszczyszyn led the way for Canada with an eighth place finish, while teammates Barrett Martineau and Greg Rafter finished 16th and 25th. Korea’s Sungbin Yun was disqualified after leaving the start too early.
