From Igls, AUT
Germany swept the podium in the opening round of Women’s luge, taking the first four spots. Much like her Double’s counterparts, Natalie Geisenberger led from the get-go, setting the fastest time in both heats, including being the only woman to break 40 seconds in run number 2. Teammates Dajana Eitberger and Tatjana Hüfner took silver and bronze for Germany as well, while Anke Wischnewski finished fourth, making it a sweep for Germany.
The first non-German was American Olympic medalist Erin Hamlin, who overcame a tough first run to make her way into the top 5. Teammates Emily Sweeney (7th), Julia Clukey (13th) and Summer Britcher (14th) made it a good day overall for USA Luge, with all four in the top 14.
Kimberley McRae led the way for Canada, just behind Hamlin in 6th.
